For the third year in a row, Bay Area drivers traveling into San Francisco across the Bay Bridge will be greeted by a familiar sign on Treasure Island. Pete Suratos reports.
ABOUT THE BANNER
Due to Treasure Island/Yerba Buena Island management changes, 2019 will mark the fifth and FINAL YEAR that the Armenian Genocide Commemoration Committee and the Bay Area community will raise the Armenian Genocide banner over the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge.
With such a visible presence to the over 250,000 vehicles who drive over the bridge daily, we aim to accomplish the following:
* REMEMBER and HONOR the 1.5 Million sanctified martyrs of the Armenian Genocide, the first Genocide of the 20th century perpetrated by the Ottoman Turkish government.
* BRING AWARENESS to all victims of Genocide.
* EDUCATE people about an unpunished crime from over a century ago.
Through education, we aim to END and PREVENT future Genocide.
Bay Area Armenians stand together against ALL Genocide!
The Armenian Genocide awareness banner was raised for the final time this Spring, and hung through May 2019! As such, we are not done fundraising! We still need your help to raise the additional $2,800 needed by SUNDAY, JUNE 30, 2019!
